» woorama - anti terrorism laws, aborigines

damn. i just found out about these new anti terrorism laws here in australia. the new legislation makes specific reference to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in section 23CA (4) (a) of the Criminal Code (Anti-terrorism Act). this means aboriginal people will be targeted.

under these new laws i can be jailed for seven years if i communicate more than once with my regular mohawk guest writer kahentinetha horn - as she is classified as a terrorist. i just posted a blog from her this morning about this http://aboriginalrights.suite101.com/blo...

it must be happening all around the world at the same time, for me to find out about this new law here just after she's posted about the same thing on the other side of the planet!

so what am i supposed to do? do i remove her writing from my site and cease to have email contact with her?

well, in that case i will have lost my freedom anyway. i don't think we can afford to bow to this pressure. i guess i'll have to just take what comes. i'm no terrorist, although my writing about the struggle for land rights and posting words from other indigenous activists may brand me as such under these new laws.

didn't the colonists already go through all this stuff with that whole cold war communist witch hunt bit? did they not learn?

i can't change my words because of this. i sure as hell don't want to go to jail though. but if we lose freedom of speech then maybe we're all in jail already.
